Weekend Films began its journey on 29 April 2005 by organizing a film show called – An Evening of Meaningful Cinema. Programme includes screening of a documentary film - Gadi Lohardaga Mail (dir: by Meghnath and Biju Toppo) and an award winning Hungarian feature film - Two Half Times in Hell (Dir: Zoltan Fabri). It was a modest beginning. About 40-odd people were present in the show and most them appreciated the subject, structure and message of both the films. Subsequently, keeping in mind the motto of spreading healthy cultural atmosphere in the minds younger one, Weekend Films presented a grand show for children-CHILDREN AND THEIR WORLD on 27 August 2006. In that event they have shown an Iranian feature film-Children Of The Heaven (dir: Majid Majidi), A delightful but thought-provoking hindi play–Panchlite - based on a story by well-known hindi writer Phanishwar Nath Renu and the show was concluded with an entertaining magic show by. This fun-filled programme was attended by more than 300 people including 120 children. A positive feedback from all sections of audience, specially from the children, was a moral boosting affair for the team Weekend Films. It was well-acclaimed by media also.

Our next venture is a documentary film on Kumbha Mela. As we all know Kumbha Mela is the largest religious gathering in the world. Team Weekend Film with other professionals (a group of 6/7 people) went straight to Allahabad on January 2007 and shot extensively for 4 days. Entire film was shot in DVCAM camera and ambience sound was recorded by a professional sound recordist –Dilip Kumar (FTII). It was a three camera shoot. We got some exclusive footage of Sahi Snan on Mauni Amabasya day, procured interviews of some of the prominent personalities like - Swami Avdheshananda Giriji (Mahamandelswar, Juna Akhara), Mahant of Nirmal Akhara, Pramod Pandey, Director of Jawahar Planetarium, Allahabad, Pankaj Srivastava, Special Correspondent, Star News, Rajaram Tiwari, Head of Khowa Pawa (lost and found) Shibir (Engaged in this social work since 1946), Prof Lalit Joshi, Professor of History, Allahabad University, Casey Meade, An American independent filmmaker, (who made a film on 2001 Maha-Kumbh) In short, it was an extremely fulfilling experience for all the associates of Weekend Films. Recorded ambient sound of the film was used by renowned photographer Prashant Panjiar in his audio-visual presentation on Kumbh Mela 2007, which he produced for www.times.com
